400 Years Ago.. He magnified the Universe for Us..

It is 400 years since Galileo Galilei demonstrated his telescope, which would lead him to make new astronomical observations.

Exactly 400 years ago today, on 25 August 1609, the Italian astronomer and philosopher Galilei Galileo showed Venetian merchants his new creation, a telescope – the instrument that was to bring him both scientific immortality and, more immediately, a whole lot of trouble.

The beauty of this discovery is, It changed the way we observed the universe. It made us feel for the first time that we are not "everything" in this universe, but we are one out of everything in "somewhere" in this universe. From his simple telescope the telescope technology grew in a spectacular fashion by solving every problem came on its path.

We are no longer depending on a small visible rage of spectrum. We are trying to explore the universe by covering all the ranges of spectrum. We went beyond ultra violet range to above infra red.

But still the legacy of Galileo's telescope still remains. It was the begining. Creation of telescope by him was not a big deal. But the important achievement is scientific observation and recordings of discoveries.

Galileo's discoveries were, perhaps predictably, not best welcomed by the Catholic church, and he spent the final decade of his life under house arrest.

Hats off to you Galileo!! You changed the way we peep in to this Universe..

You magnified the universe for Us..
